Last year, I went to therapy to cope with a difficult time in my life. During a therapy session, my therapist asked me what I would think if I walked into a room and witnessed myself yelling at someone. My reaction was “why is she doing that in public”. In my opinion, my reaction wasn’t correct. I shouldn’t be yelling at anyone. My therapist’s reaction was “wow the other person is showing emotional control”. That response hit me like a ton of bricks. In her saying the other person had emotional control she also subtly said I didn’t. That’s when I knew I wasn’t the image I had created in my mind of myself. And it also held me be accountable for my actions. Through therapy, I learned that although I may have thought I was showing up great sometimes I wasn’t. And that’s ok because this level of reflection helps me to accept that there is still healing needed on my part. And a part of that journey is continuously acknowledging my traits for the purpose of working on and improving myself.


Continuing the Journey of Self-Discovery


Shadow work is not a one-time event. It requires ongoing commitment and self-reflection. Here are some strategies to ensure you stay engaged in this personal growth:
